Bed Frame Disassembly: Questions to Answer Before Pickup

Identify the frame

Share the bed size and whether the frame is metal, platform, upholstered, storage, adjustable, or bunk style. If you have the assembly instructions, keep them nearby.

Decide who handles disassembly

Ask whether basic disassembly is included in the estimate and what tools may be needed. Complex adjustable bases, wall-mounted headboards, or damaged frames may need separate assessment.

Keep the hardware together

Place bolts, brackets, and specialty fasteners in a labeled bag if the frame may be reused. Do not leave sharp hardware loose on the floor or taped where it can scratch a finished surface.

Separate the mattress question

A mattress and a frame are different items. California runs a statewide mattress stewardship program, and some retailers must offer used-mattress take-back when delivering a new one. Confirm the path that applies to your mattress instead of assuming it follows the frame.
