How to Prepare a Sofa for Apartment Pickup

Start with the exit, not the sofa

Measure the narrowest doorway, hallway turn, stair landing, and elevator opening. Compare those numbers with the sofa at its widest fixed points. Removable feet and sectional connectors may help, but do not assume every frame can be safely broken down.

Ask the building first

Clear a real carrying lane

Give an accurate item description

Say whether it is a sectional, sleeper sofa, recliner, or standard couch. Mention stairs, a long carry, tight turns, and whether the item is wet, damaged, or contains loose parts.
